Pickering's Original 1947 Gin｜ Other Products

Pickering's Original 1947 Gin is the recipe that started it all: a formula scrawled on a piece of paper dated 17 July 1947, carried out of Bombay in the last days of the Raj and kept as a family secret for 66 years until Marcus Pickering and Matt Gammell built Summerhall Distillery in Edinburgh in 2013. While the flagship Red Top was adapted for modern tastes, this "Orange Top" keeps the 1947 recipe unchanged, and it is bottled at 42% ABV (84 proof). It shares the nine-botanical backbone of juniper, coriander, cardamom, angelica, fennel, anise, lemon, lime and clove, but with the warmer, spicier balance of its colonial-era original, more cardamom and clove, a rounder mouthfeel and a slightly lower strength. It is a gin for a G&T the way it would have been poured in 1947, with a wedge of lime, and a fascinating side-by-side with the modern Pickering's.
